Our school follows a knowledge-based curriculum underpinned by skills.

At Grappenhall Heys, we want all our pupils to be inspired and to love learning. Our children - confident in who they are and with a strong sense of belonging - leave us with the required knowledge and skills to succeed in the next steps of their learning journey.

Our carefully planned and sequenced curriculum is underpinned by our school values and enhanced by a breadth of enrichment opportunities for all. At Grappenhall Heys, we utilise local expertise and specialisms within school and beyond and validate our offer through national and global evidence-based research. Enrichment is a significant aspect of our curriculum offer and is centred on first-hand, active and meaningful learning experiences across the curriculum. We understand that whilst this originates within each subject, cross-curricular and rich connections between subjects enhance our metacognitive approach. We take every available opportunity to enrich our children’s experiences progressively across school by building upon starting points, prior learning, topics and tasks.

We celebrate success and strive for excellence in all that we do. Our curriculum is ambitious and is structured to promote independence, risk taking and resilience. Creativity is explicitly encouraged in every subject. There is a thirst for originality, new experiences and knowledge. Our inspirational and vocabulary-rich learning environment supports our curriculum design and scaffolds learning opportunities inside and outside of the classroom. Our curriculum encourages pupils to be respectful and considerate towards each other, our community, our environment and ourselves.

We are uncompromising in our commitment to know every child as an individual and to support them in their academic, social and emotional development. Every child is valued, their voice is heard and it is reflected in our curriculum.

O​ur KS1 / KS2 Curriculum

 

We are Grappenhall Heys and together we make a difference.

At Grappenhall Heys follow the National Curriculum for KS1 and KS2. In Reception, children follow the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and, in our Nursery, we follow the guidance from Development Matters to create a bespoke curriculum offer that ensures our children are school ready.

 

The curriculum we offer our children is varied, rich and relevant. It consists of learning activities, enrichment experiences and interactions which promote our school values, meets the requirements of National Curriculum and also includes what we believe is important for our children’s all round development. If you wish to find out further information on our curriculum, please speak to your child's teacher, our curriculum subject leads or read each year group's curriculum plan.
