Strong Foundations for Every Child
At Grappenhall Heys, we recognise that strong foundations are essential for every child's future learning and success. From the earliest stages of education, we prioritise the development of communication and language, early reading, writing and mathematics, ensuring that children acquire the essential knowledge and skills upon which all future learning is built. These foundations are carefully sequenced, explicitly taught and revisited throughout each child's learning journey, enabling them to develop fluency, confidence and independence.
Our commitment to securing strong foundations continues throughout Key Stages 1 and 2. We recognise that children develop at different rates and ensure that gaps in essential knowledge and skills are identified early and addressed through high-quality teaching, appropriate adaptations and timely, targeted support. We maintain high expectations for every child, ensuring that all pupils, including those with SEND, are supported and challenged to access our ambitious, broad and enriching curriculum.
Our carefully planned and sequenced curriculum is underpinned by our school values and enhanced by a breadth of enrichment opportunities for all. At Grappenhall Heys, we utilise local expertise and specialisms within school and beyond and validate our offer through national and global evidence-based research. Enrichment is a significant aspect of our curriculum offer and is centred on first-hand, active and meaningful learning experiences across the curriculum. We understand that whilst this originates within each subject, cross-curricular and rich connections between subjects enhance our metacognitive approach. We take every available opportunity to enrich our children’s experiences progressively across school by building upon starting points, prior learning, topics and tasks.
We celebrate success and strive for excellence in all that we do. Our curriculum is ambitious and is structured to promote independence, risk taking and resilience. Creativity is explicitly encouraged in every subject. There is a thirst for originality, new experiences and knowledge. Our inspirational and vocabulary-rich learning environment supports our curriculum design and scaffolds learning opportunities inside and outside of the classroom. Our curriculum encourages pupils to be respectful and considerate towards each other, our community, our environment and ourselves.
We are uncompromising in our commitment to know every child as an individual and to support them in their academic, social and emotional development. Every child is valued, their voice is heard and it is reflected in our curriculum.
