Equality Objectives

Grappenhall Heys Community Primary School is situated on the outskirts of Warrington and has recently undergone an expansion project which will look to grow the school over the next five years, resulting in it being a two-form entry school from Reception to Year 6 by academic year 2028-2029. Having already expanded our EYFS and Year One cohorts, we recognise that we have a more diverse school community than ever before. In preparing our pupils for being part of and growing up in a diverse society where they are subject to various attitudes towards minority groups, images and identities projected and portrayed by the media and possible unconscious bias of their own, we are embracing change in our school and as part of the global community.

In response to and in further preparation for this changing community, we have prepared and published Equality Objectives. They should be read in conjunction with the Equality, Inclusion and Diversity Policy and Accessibility Plan (see above).

  1. To promote cultural understanding and awareness, valuing and celebrating various cultures and religious beliefs amongst different ethnic groups within our school community.
  2. To ensure accessibility across the school for students, staff and visitors with disabilities, including access to specialist teaching.
  3. To diversify the curriculum in all areas to ensure the positive representation of all protected characteristics across so that our students see and can be seen.
  4. To provide appropriate and early pastoral interventions for students to promote positive behaviour and inclusion.
  5. To actively close gaps in attainment and achievement between students and all groups of students; students eligible for free-school meals, students with special educational needs and disabilities, looked after children, students from minority ethnic groups and children of different genders.
  6. To monitor and promote the involvement of all groups of students in the extra-curricular life of the school, including leadership opportunities.

Compliance

We comply with our public sector equality duties as outlined in the Equality Act 2010 and SEND Regulations 2014. These include the protected characteristics of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation. Please read our policies on individual areas under the overarching aims of inclusion which have been written for and adopted by our school.

Curriculum

All children are valued, and we aim for all children to experience success, and achievement, and to reach their full potential. We teach our pupils through the framework of our School Values. We educate children within a school community which includes pupils, staff, parents and governors. We create purposeful learning opportunities that develop and enhance social, moral, spiritual and cultural (SMSC) learning experiences.
