Collaborative Learning

February 2024 - Year 2 Maths Workshop

We welcomed Year 2 children from Cobbs, Stockton Heath, St Matthews' and St Thomas' primary schools to Grappenhall Heys to take part in a maths workshop alongside children from our school. The children were fantastic and worked brilliantly with children from other schools to solve a variety of problems.

We investigated coded 100 squares, explored multiples and primes, and applied our knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in different contexts. All the children who attended had a fantastic time and were a credit to their schools.

January 2024 - Year 6 Poetry Workshop

Some of our Year 6 children attended an Aim High writing workshop at Thelwall Junior School, guided by poet Terry Caffery.

The children were inspired and each child's unique perspective added depth to the collective masterpiece that the children from various schools created. Year 6 left the collaborative writing workshop not just with newfound knowledge but with a sense of accomplishment, having ventured into the realm of poetry under the guidance of a true wordsmith. Terry Caffery's workshop not only enriched their understanding of the written word but also ignited a spark that will undoubtedly continue to fuel their literary journeys.

October 2023 - Year 6 Angles Challenge

Our pupils had a great time working with Year 6 children from Locking Stumps Community Primary School, Stockton Heath Primary School and Twiss Green Community Primary School.

These schools are all part of our Collaborative Learning Group.

The group today explored really tricky maths problems centred around finding missing angles. We discussed our prior learning of angles and looked at the end points for Year 6. We then applied this understanding to tackle some really complex questions and worked with our peers to reason and problem solve together.
